Not sure why I can't post the link, so here's the text.

"Tires often wear out faster than brakes, and unlike many other car parts, you can easily tell when they need to be replaced by inspecting the treads to see if they're worn.

But Michelin says that's not the case with its new !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! that it claims can maintain grip for much longer than traditional tires, and can even improve as the tread wears. Michelin calls it the "the tire that evolves as you drive."

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , as EverGrip tires wear, the tread gets wider, and this makes up for the loss of tread depth that can reduce wet weather performance in traditional tires. Traction is also improved as the tire wears to expose "emerging grooves" in the tread wall, with Michelin claiming that "more than 150 new grooves" can effectively disperse water as the tire wears. These features, Michelin says, allow its Premier EverGrip tires to outperform even brand-new tires from competitors in wet-surface braking tests.

Michelin attributes the tire's fountain-of-youth features to formulating the EverGrip tires from a special high-traction rubber compound that includes high amounts of silica and sunflower oil. Michelin said the combination gives the treads high bonding strength to help keep the tire stuck on the road on wet surfaces, while the sunflower oil helps improve low-temperature grip.

The Premier series EverGrip tires will be available in 32 sizes ranging from 185/65R15 to 245/45R18 for vehicles such as the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . The tires will also come with a 60,000-mile limited warranty. And they could be the only parts on your car that get better with age."

It makes sense to me, they probably designed the tire so it reaches peak performance after a certain point in its lifetime. Instead of having the best right out of the box, Michelin is going the route of increased lifespan and hitting the performance peak at a certain wear level. It is an interesting concept.
